Optical diagnostic instrumentation is extensively used for aerodynamical tests in wind tunnels and turbomachinery applications. Fluid-Structure-Interaction (FSI) is quantified correlating surface deformation data with measured flow fields close to the model surface. Rapidly moving wind tunnel models are precisely tracked in space and time together with derived model deformation data. Laser imaging methods for in-situ spray, combustion and flow field measurements are applied to investigate all stages of jet engine performance to improve fuel consumption and to reduce airborne pollutants, particularly the greenhouse gases. LaVision's intelligent optical metrology tools offer valuable measurement results in the design and development process and in validating fluid dynamics and combustor codes.
